An electronic truck scale is a modern weighing device used to measure the total weight or axle load of a vehicle. It achieves fast and accurate weight measurement through high-precision sensors, electronic instruments, and a data processing system. Its core principle is to use resistance strain gauge sensors or digital sensors to convert the pressure of the vehicle on the weighing platform into an electrical signal. This signal is then processed by amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, and other circuits, ultimately displaying the weight data in digital form. Compared to traditional mechanical scales, electronic truck scales have advantages such as high automation, accurate data, and remote transmission capabilities, and are widely used in logistics, ports, mines, construction sites, and other scenarios.
Technical Principles and Structure
An electronic truck scale mainly consists of a weighing platform, sensors, a junction box, a weighing display instrument, and connecting cables. The weighing platform is usually welded from high-strength steel with an anti-slip surface to withstand repeated pressure from heavy vehicles. Sensors are the core component; common types include bridge sensors and column sensors. The former is suitable for small and medium-sized vehicles, while the latter is mostly used for large trucks or engineering vehicles. The sensor converts the weight signal into a weak voltage signal, which is then collected through a junction box and transmitted to the weighing instrument. The instrument's built-in microprocessor performs signal amplification, filtering, calibration, and display functions. Some high-end models also support RS485, Ethernet, or 4G communication, allowing data to be uploaded to the management system in real time.
Application Scenarios and Classifications
Based on the application scenario, electronic truck scales can be divided into static truck scales and dynamic truck scales. Static truck scales require vehicles to come to a complete stop before weighing, offering higher accuracy and are suitable for scenarios such as trade settlements and highway toll stations. Dynamic truck scales allow vehicles to pass over the weighing platform at low speeds (usually ≤5km/h), achieving weighing through dynamic compensation algorithms, resulting in higher efficiency. They are commonly used in logistics centers and highway overload detection stations. Furthermore, based on platform size, they can be divided into portable (e.g., 870x470mm) and fixed (e.g., 3x18m). Portable scales are suitable for temporary weighing or mobile operations, while fixed scales are used for long-term, fixed-point weighing.
